(More customer reviews)These are fantastic headphones. I received them for my birthday (surprise) and was extremely excited. However, I did not have a headphone amplifier at the time. A week later I had purchased the Fiio E9 FiiO E9 Desktop Headphone Amplifier and Dock for E7 USB DAC and had already received the FiiO E7 USB DAC and Portable Headphone Amplifier (Black) from my lovely girlfriend.
With the power of the E9 and the excellent DAC in the E7, there was a major difference in sound quality. The bass had more impact and definition.
Now to the phones themselves. These (the Black model) are a special edition that supposedly been tweaked slightly by Quincy Jones. The mids and highs are excellent, but the sound stage is where you get your "WHOA" reaction. Listening to cheap headphones throws all the music at you at once...piling on top. These however present them as they are, which means they can sound horrible if you have a bad source. Having at the very least 320kbs songs, it will take all the information and turn it into your own personal symphony.
People often say about the K70X series that they have no or "anemic" bass. It's there, but we have been listening to very colored and bass heavy Beats and other cheap headphones. It takes a while, but you realized under all the booming bass there were a few details in the mids that were lost. These are balanced and natural for bass.
One more note for people wishing to get into these headphones: be sure to burn them in for at least 100 hours before getting critical on the sound.
These are not for everyone but are indeed amazing reference headphones!
