Nu Dolphin Swimmer Waterproof 2 GB MP3 Player Review

I looked at a couple different designs for a waterproof mp3 player. The dolphin looked like it had a good design, so I bought it.
It worked great for about a week. Then the problems started.
It started playing in random order... maybe it was me but I couldn't get it to play sequentially (not exactly good for audio books). Manual and website were no help.
Then it wouldn't turn on. I charged it for hours and still it wouldn't turn off. Days later it turned on... and then I couldn't turn it off.
I think it is a good design; possibly I just got a bum unit.
I'm in the process of getting a replacement unit. If that one turns out to work as advertised I'll update my review.

The new NU Dolphin is a Waterproof MP3 player tailored for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts. The design concept is to create a portable & Waterproof music device that can be worn by swimmers and other water sport athletes while keeping the impact on their athletic performance to minimum. The NU design team come up with this ultra light weight, ultra compact player that weighs only 25g with a dimension of 60 x 20 x 20mm. Its cylindrical-shaped casing features a minimalist outlook with all control buttons located on one side, and the headphone jack on the other side. The Waterproof earphone attaches to the player via a special screw-in jack to keep the device water-tight. Both the Waterproof earphone and the Waterproof MP3 player were tested to comply with IPx7 international water resistant standard. The Waterproof earphone employs a special non-woven fabric membrane to keep the speaker vibration plate dry while maintaining a high quality sound output. The earpieces are attached with a soft silicon earplug that fits snugly in the ears. The earplugs not only keep the earphones dry but also prevent the earphones from coming loose during vigorous activities. Operating time for the NU Waterproof MP3 Dolphin is roughly 8 hours when fully charged, and recharging time is about 1.5 hours. Recharging (and file downloading) can be done via USB port.

Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3 Digital Camera with 3.5-Inch LCD Review

Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W3 Digital Camera with 3.5-Inch LCD
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start by saying I'm not necessarily a 3d enthusiast, I wasn't all that impressed by Avatar in the theater... I'm not necessarily jumping on the 3d bandwagon because it seems to be the next big thing getting pushed by TV/display manufacturers. I am, however, a PHOTOGRAPHY enthusiast. I consider myself to be a fairly seasoned photographer -- I've got a wide variety of cameras and lenses, am members of some local photography clubs... Creative photography interests me the most. For example I have interest in things like vintage camera equipment, pinhole lenses, Lensbaby lenses, Holga cameras, etc... just all kinds of creative ways to capture things that are maybe outside of the norm.
So while I think of 3d as a gimmicky trend that has been revived by the Avatar movie, I'm also a creative photographer that was very intrigued when I heard about this camera. I bought the camera sight-unseen, basically thinking it was going to be a gimmick. However after seeing the pictures it produces I honestly, truly believe it is not a gimmick and 3d photography is going to be here to stay. It may take a while to catch on, but it's here to stay.
Once you experiment with the camera a bit you'll learn how to get the most of the 3d effect. Taking photos of things that are further away (such as landscapes, distant architecture/buildings where it's difficult to get a sense of depth), the effect is more subtle and less apparent. But taking photos of things that are reasonably close to you, and there are points of interest at different distances throughout the shot (such as a forest with trees at staggered distances away), the 3d effect is much more apparent and can be quite stunning. Either way, with a subtle 3d effect for things further away, or for a much more apparent 3d effect on things that are closer, it truly does add another dimension to your photography. You see things in the photos almost the way you do in real life.
Like all things this is just another creative tool to add to the toolkit. There are lenses for certain jobs, and there are cameras for certain jobs. The images this camera produces really have to be seen to be believed. I, as well as several others I have shown the images to, am really shocked at how well the 3d looks and am still trying to wrap my head around it and when I might want to use this new tool.
Here are my pros and cons:
Pros
---
- Reasonably compact for what it is. It's more compact than I expected. Have to keep in mind it is basically 2 cameras in 1. Most of the cameras I use (SLR's) are not nearly as compact as this so this really feels like a treat to carry around.
- Battery life in my experience has been excellent. I've seen other reviews say the battery life isn't good. I've found that not to be the case. I didn't even fully charge the battery it came with and it's lasted for hours of me messing around and testing the camera out.
- The 3d effect, when used appropriately, is really stunning.
- Camera boots up reasonably quick for a compact.
- Can easily switch between 2d/3d modes, can view 3d photos in 2d, etc.
- Can do some creative 2d photography -- having both lenses using different settings for 1 shot.
Cons
---
- You have to hold the camera in a somewhat unnatural way in order to keep fingers from getting into the shots. The lenses are both on the outer sides of the front of the camera. This is a trade-off that I completely understand as they have to have the lenses apart to get the 3d effect but also wanted to keep the camera compact.
- I've had poor results when using the Macro (close-up) functionality.
- Not a fault of the camera, but until 3d is widely adopted it will be difficult to share these photos with anyone the way they're meant to be seen.
- Prints are on the expensive side at $6.99 for a 5x7 print
- Prints are only available in 5x7. I really wish there was a larger variety of sizes available. I don't expect to get gallery-sized prints, but a little bigger than 5x7 would be nice.
So is the camera perfect? No. It's obviously a new technology and is only going to continue to get better. But for where it's at right now I am really thrilled with the camera overall and that's why I gave it 5 stars. This camera really does add a new dimension to photography that has sparked a creative bug inside of me that I haven't felt in a long time.* UPDATE 10/4/2010 - I've got a couple observations after having spent a few weeks with the camera, taken some video, AND I just got my first order of prints.
Picture quality - I, like many other reviewers, have been "wowed" by the way the 3d pictures look on the camera's built in screen. I will agree with that 100%, however, being critical about the picture quality after reviewing it on a PC, it's really not that great. Don't get me wrong, the 3d effect is absolutely fabulous, but don't be fooled by the results you see on the camera's tiny display -- this is essentially 2 mediocre cameras stuffed in to 1 body. I can't say enough how cool the 3d effect is but the images on their own are on-par with about any other cheap point & shoot digital.
Video - very impressive. I took some video from the top of a waterfall (looking down). Stunning.
Prints - This is one area where I think a lot of other reviewers have not yet covered. I ordered 3 prints. They only come in 5x7 size. I tried to order somewhat of a variety of types of shots, just to get an idea of how they look on paper. I had no idea what to expect. Let me start by saying the prints come on a really thick paper, and it has those ridges on it -- you know, kinda like those scratchy 3d things where you can turn them to see 2 different images. Not QUITE the same, but pretty similar. Just due to the nature of the paper it is printed on a lot of the detail can be lost. So that said, I got 3 prints. Portrait - decent. Close-up shot - not good. Nature shot - awesome. The nature shot I took was from a bridge overlooking a river, with trees and such overhanging the edge of the river. The 3d effect was quite pleasing and I am excited about ordering more prints for this type of shot. Now my sample is only 3 prints, but perhaps this advice will serve someone else well. The 3d effect on the camera doesn't quite turn out the same way on a print for all types of shots.

Awful camera. Pictures wouldn't tranfer to computer. Camera showed they were there - but the software provided wouldn't pull them or show them. Then the thing eats batteries - literally....the batteries start leaking. Tried different batteries and it did the same thing. I bought this for my 5 year old nephew. It isn't safe for kids and isn't good enough quality for adults. Awful!

This was my first online purchase and everything was fine. The shipping cost was relatively low and delivery time within the schedule, considering that I live outside the United States. The product: excellent! much better than expected. This price is very low compared to other MP3 players as the speedo. 4 GB is more than necessary for an hour of swimming. In addition, the kit comes with everything included. Very comfortable, very easy to use, and there was no need to adjust the headset while swimming. The sound is pretty good. I'm really happy! Only negative: no shuffles.

Pineapple Rumble K Bone Conduction Headphone (Black) Review

Pineapple Rumble K Bone Conduction Headphone (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I saw the largely discounted price on these earphones, I was eager to pick them up; finally, I would have a high quality set of earphones. I was also very interested in the bone conduction technology.
I am disappointed to have to say that these just do not meet the standards I would hold for a $30 pair of headphones, much less $70, or the unbelievable retail of $200.
When used on my mp3 player (Creative Zen 4 GB Portable Media Player (Black)), the headphones cut out if the volume is turned up too high, presumably because the vibration requires more power than the mp3 player can put out(it keeps alternating between left and right struggling to produce sound from both sides, and when turned up a bit higher, they just cut out entirely).
They are more or less useless to me at work because they can't get loud enough to be heard clearly over the sound of the machinery.
At the volume levels where these headphones actually work on my mp3 player, you can hardly feel the bass at all.
They are comfortable in-ear headphones, and with an amplifier I am sure they could kick out some great bass (I am suspect of how the treble would sound at that level though); but in their current state, the headphones that came with my mp3 player worked better. (I've never had issues like this with any other headphones/earphones)

Canon 3508B001 Powershot D10 Review

Canon 3508B001 Powershot D10
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I must admit that I am partial to Canon, but this camera is one of the best I have ever owned!!! It may not have the most megapixels, or be the best, most high end piece of electronics out there, but for the average Joe, this is a phenomenal investment!!!
For most people's purposes, the pictures are always sharp and clear enough (note that as with any camera, movement can mess up or blur a shot), and with sufficient megapixels for editing and blowing up without pixellation. There are enough options on this camera to necessitate a college class on photography for how to use them all, but it's ease of use is simple enough for anyone to use right out of the box if you just want to take pictures. it is a WYSIWYG camera, but it does sooooooo much more if you know what you're doing...
What I thoroughly enjoy the most about this camera is its versatility. I bought it specifically for underwater photography and video for our family scuba trip to Baja, and was pleasantly surprised at the clarity and ease of use of this feature. No, you can't (shouldn't) take it below 30 feet, and no, it's not the high end Nikonos underwater camera with multiple flashes and all the gadgets that you can take to 160 feet or more, but for a day out snorkeling or family scuba diving, this works perfectly. AND, I can use it above, in and under the water, without having to change any settings whatsoever.
Great for the pool, the picnic, or the beach, this camera is the most versatile tool in any photegraphic arsenal!!!
If you want a sturdy, easy to use camera, but one that has tons of options for multiple effects that you won't worry about getting ruined in ANY weather conditions, and especially one that won't leave you with a second mortgage, then this is the one for you!!!

iPod Nano 5th Gen Underwater Protective Swim Case with Waterproof Headphones Review

iPod Nano 5th Gen Underwater Protective Swim Case with Waterproof Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I ordered this product, I was skeptical that the sound would be compromised in the water, and wondered if my ipod nano would stay dry during water sports.
The case is light but sturdy. It's a little too bulky to strap to your arm with the included arm band. The stiff cord for the headphones sticks out a bit far. Sometimes while swimming laps, the earphones come out of my ears. During my first swim with it, I had to stop several times to make adjustments. I do better strapping it to my swimsuit rather than use the arm band.
The turning wheel on the swim case is actually easier to use than the wheel on the ipod nano. You can quickly and easily choose your playlist, scroll through songs, or use the other functions.
The headphones felt funny in my ears at first, but I quickly got used to them. The sound quality is better than Apple's white ear buds that come with the ipod nano.
Even the video camera function works while the ipod nano is in its swim case! I was amazed that the sound would be picked up while the ipod was under water. It does a nice job.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone who spends time in the water or at the beach.

H2O Audio Surge Waterproof Sport Headphones Review

H2O Audio Surge Waterproof Sport Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The good news: 1) Very high quality sound. 2) Company stands behind its product. 3) Much better than predecessor H2O Audio H3 Waterproof Headphone.
The bad news: 1) There can be some trouble in getting the right fit. I swim an hour each workday morning and it is not uncommon for me to have to stop and reinsert an earbud due to water leaking in. This is particularly true if I am doing anything too energetic like rapid surface diving turns. 2) They take a little getting used to to be able to insert them correctly. (For me, I insert them so that I imagine that I am pointing them either at the tip of my nose or right between my eyes. Your mileage may vary.)
Overall, a great product. I have paid far more for submersible music that works far less well.

Magellan Portable GPS Navigation & Battery ToughCase for iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPod Touch Review

Magellan Portable GPS Navigation and Battery ToughCase for iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPod Touch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After using this product for over a week I have noticed that it has a serious flaw with respect to the secondary battery in the Toughcase. After almost 36 continuous hours of charging with an Apple 1000mAh charger, the Toughcase indicator reports only a single bar (out of four possible). After experimenting with combinations to include disabling wi-fi and bluetooth and GPS, ensuring that the Toughcase GPS is switched off, and even switching the iPhone off, the best I have gotten so far is two bars after over 24 hours of continuous charging; this is when the iPhone already has a 100% full charge mind you. The ONLY way I have been able to get the Toughcase battery to charge fully is to remove the iPhone from the case and charge the case separately. Although the two do separate rather easily, it kind of defeats the point if you have to do this to charge every time.
The case has a good solid feel to it, and does take away from the portability of the iPhone, but I assumed that going into this and it is not a problem.
As others have mentioned, the retention clip does leave something to be desired.
One other loss of functionality that seemed a little buried was that the external headphone jack is only three conductor vice the four conductor needed to use external microphones and in-line remotes, I was disappointed but knew beforehand as well, but I do not see why it would be all that difficult to port that functionality from the dock connector interface to the external port.
I did not really experience the O-Ring trouble that so many others have but I do see how that could occur easily. A simple application of common sense keeps everything in check on that issue.
I had absolutely no problems when speaking on the phone and respectively, none of the people I spoke to said that any audible change was notable.
In conclusion I can tell you that the case has a good solid feel to it. I would trust it in a downpour but I would never submerge it; it might be up to the challenge but I am not willing to bet my phone on it. The battery is certainly not the selling point of this case, with my iPhone at 15% charge, I turned on the internal battery (no GPS, no wi-fi, no bluetooth) and was able to charge the phone up to 94%, for all the hassle of charging and the size I want 100% plus charge. The external GPS added a modicum of accuracy to GPS navigation. I think this product needs a little reworking before it merits the $180-$200 price tag. If all goes well, perhaps a second gen will be just the ticket, until then I am returning this and sticking with my otterbox defender.

I'll start off by saying that I bought this item about a year ago and have used it about 5 or 6 times... And, I LOVE IT!!! It makes riding with my friend so much more enjoyable (perhaps not so much for my third biking friend, who cant join in on the conversation) I wont say they're the greatest product in the world, as some aspects of it feel a bit cheap (such as the headphone wires, which I feel I have to be particularly careful with as they feel like they could break, also, one of the clips that hold the receiver on the helmet has broken, but the box comes with a velcro alternative) but considering what else is out there, and price of those alternatives, I think these are great.
I should point out at this stage that I use these with a Vespa (my friend rides a Honda SH150, another scooter) so perhaps my conditions aren't the same as those who use them on motorcycles.
On the open road, i'd say we can be about 300m apart without losing sound quality (this is my guesstimate). When there are a few more twist involved, a bit less than that. Mind you, we would probably not be riding that far apart anyway, so this distance suits us perfectly. The volume when in intercom mode is very high, and must be adjusted in order not to go deaf. My friend uses a full-face helmet and I use a half-face most of the time without a visor. I'm told that I can be heard pretty clearly until about the 70 - 80km/h and although I can still be heard at the 80 mark, it sound better with the visor pulled down. (my friends words) I on the other hand herd him well the whole time. The max speed i've used these is 100km/h (the legal limit in Australia) and they worked great.
I have also paired these with a Blackberry Bold 9000 and 9700 and was able to make very clear phone calls. The volume on these can go very (very) high, so it's important to adjust. The person on the other end hears very clear, and in fact, in one instance the receiver didn't even know I was riding at the time.
As another reviewer pointed out, as music headphones, these fail miserably. connected to my iPod, although the volume is very loud, they are very VERY tinny! It's quite uncomfortable on the ears. However, I did not buy these for that feature as I have other speakers in helmet for this purpose (yes, I have 2 speakers stuffed into my helmet)
Pros: Cheap; Great sound quality in intercom/bluetooth mobile phone modes; decent distances in intercom mode; great audio quality at high speeds; great audio quality with open-face helmets; can be used whilst being charged (very handy if you happen to have a cigarette lighter charger, as I do)
Cons: Very bad audio quality as music headphones; some aspects of it feel a bit cheap, such as wires and some of the plastics; sometimes the sound is very quiet, but turning it off and then back on often fixes this; powering off can sometimes be a bit tricky ie. sometimes it goes into pairing mode instead of turning off when you hold the power button too long.
P.S. This is the first time i've ever written a review, so I hope it has helped someone :)

I originally gave Overboard a high rating because it worked but two months after I purchased it it leaked. It was used only a few times while swimming in a YMCA pool. It wasn't abused or stressed in anyway but it still leaked and ruined the Ipod. I contacted the company because I felt it still must be under warranty. I discovered the company is located in the UK. They stated to mail the item to them; they would send it out to an independent lab and have it tested to see if the product was at fault.
I wasn't going to waste the time because I got the impression the company was going to admit fault but I thought I'd provide my point and I sent it anyway. I mailed the item to the address provided and also put it to the attention of the person I had been emailing, 5 days later they received the package. Since I never heard from them I contacted the same person a few weeks after they received the package. He stated he never received it. Well that convenient especially since the company received the package 5 days after I mailed and I put it to the attention of a specific person, which I had been emailing.
All of their products are made from a thin flexible plastic. I actually purchased this for my mother to use while at the pool. I've used a H2O product for over 3 years and never had a problem. After this incident I purchased another H2O product for my mother. It works great and the company is located in San Diego, CA.Here's two other reviews I located on other web sites:
"Case splits and does not work. Overboard accept no responsibility for this. best avoided"
Another review from another web site,
"please, take my advice.... DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
it falls apart when you open it.
and then it doesn't float.
then your ipod will get water damage.
and the company will deny your claim that it's defective.
repeat: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
in fact, run far away from it.
you'll thank me later"

Wow, I didn't think it would be this bad. Unit emits a high pitched whine when powered on, which could be lived with, except that this whine makes its way in to the recorded videos. Supposedly records at 640x480 or 720x480, but both settings produce the same size and aspect ratio file. When panning left to right, the image appears to wobble. Is this the "rolling shutter" effect CMOS sensors are famous for? Pan across a city skyline and it appears that the buildings are made of jello. The batteries are also standard AAA, not a rechargeable pack. This could be a plus I guess, but it does not come with a charger or any external power options, although there are three generic Chinese batteries in the packaging so it could be used directly out of the box.
On the plus side, it does work, it will record video. The TV A/V Output works fine, and the files are recorded in AVI format to the SD card. Video is an Motion JPEG at an odd 27 frames per second, with audio being 22khz. It also has a tripod mount. Yey!

Great outdoor pictures and Video, good indoor shots, easy to use, though fat fingers may struggle a bit..
Lives up to it's promise of waterproof and tough. Bought from Best Buy as they are the only ones that had it in stock. We had an earlier model and were updating for the HDVideo. I will be taking this on a 14 day backpacking hike, will let you know. Video is pretty good and pictures are also pretty good. These cameras do not expose well with flash and this one suffers the same fate, for close up flash shots you will want to compensate by setting exposure down 1 or 2 clicks but other than that the shots are good. And sometimes focus/ready will be delayed, I've missed shots because of that. I'm sure as I get to use the presets it will get better. Looking forward to the GPS on my treck. It works and this is great for iPhoto and tracking locations.. It also is a little heavy but that is what it's about, this is a tough camera and you can feel confident taking it anywhere.

I did have high hopes for this camera, even though it is priced so low. The reviews that could find were pretty good. First the good: It is a solidly built, attractive camea that fits well in the hand. The image stablization seems very good. After going through several cameras destroyed by damage I was looking for something I could take cycling, hiking, etc and have it survive modest drops, rain and sand. It might be that this camera will handle the elements well, but I was so unhappy with the quality of the pictures and the camera's performance that I wil be returning it today.
The first big negative is that it takes 4-5 seconds to start up. Given that the most recent coolpix cameras are basically instant on their startup I really don't see an excuse for this. Second, the auto focus is extremly slow, often 2+ seconds. And finally the shutter lag after depressing the button is 2 seconds. This means from the time I take the camera out of my cycling jersy until I can take a picture is 9 seconds. That is a long, long time.
Secondly, this camera is pretty much the worst I have seen in low light conditions. And I use "low light" loosely since basically anything other than full sunlight is a problem. Anything inside, even with full lighting, will be blurred. The other thing is that inside pictures make very "orange" looking pictures unless the flash is used.
The description of the camera tauts its ability to take "sports" pictures and to "hold" focus on moving objects. I just can't agree with this at all. I tried a whole variety of pictures of moving objects including running children, cyclists and slow moving cars and it just blurs. I wish I could upload some pictures taken with the camera to show what I am talking about.
While I didn't have high expectations of their "continuous" shooting mode, it is basically worthless at a picture every 4-5 seconds even with a class 10 memory card. Looks like I am going to have to investigate more expensive options.
The movie capture ability was actually pretty decent although I do see a lot of artifacts in the encoding when I play it back. But the capture is very smooth.

Olympus XZ-1 10 MP Digital Camera with f1.8 Lens and 3-Inch OLED Monitor (Black) Review

Olympus XZ-1 10 MP Digital Camera with f1.8 Lens and 3-Inch OLED Monitor (Black)

This is my preliminary review for the Olympus XZ-1, which arrived at my house this afternoon. I will update as necessary.
Over the last two weeks, I have ordered, and returned, two other cameras: the Fujifilm HS20EXR, and the Panasonic LX5. Neither one of them really satisfied me in terms of a total package. The build quality (at least on my copy) of the HS20 was suspect, and worried me a bit. The RAW processing time was quite slow, and I guess I just didn't like the overall feel of it. The Panasonic, despite all the rave reviews, did not satisfy in terms of IQ. Color blotching crept in far too early (even as early as ISO 200) for my taste, and by ISO 400 it was unbearable. The Jpeg processing on the LX5 wasn't great, either. So I finally decided to order the Olympus after much reading and staring at sample images on the internet, though I was becoming skeptical it would be able to satisfy me. At least so far, I was wrong.
The Olympus XZ-1 is a marvel of technology. From the blazing fast Zuiko lens to the quick and slick menu interface, to the conservative beauty of the design, this camera means business. Shooting with the XZ-1 is an effortless joy, and it works so well and so intuitively at times that you almost forget you're using a camera at all. I've read in other reviews that the rear control ring is finicky and annoying, but that is not my experience. I find it to work quite well, with the right amount of tactile feedback. The same is true of the front ring around the lens, used to control various settings based on the mode you are in. Sure, there's not a dedicated button for ISO, but it's so easy to set the ISO from the menu that I'm not quite sure what the issue is. The lack of an AFL/AEL button is a bit of a letdown, but I don't find it to be a dealbreaker by any means.
The art filters range from quaint novelty effects that I will rarely use to things like the Dynamic Tone filter, which (though the effect is a bit hit or miss) can be incredibly striking.
As far as all the other modes go, it's pretty much your standard fare, with the addition of the 'low light' mode. But I wouldn't go too crazy with that mode, as the noise at higher ISOs from the XZ-1 is pretty pronounced. And that leads me to image quality.
For some reason, though the XZ-1 possesses quite a large sensor for a point-and-shoot, it produces quite a lot of noise. What this creates is the necessity to find the right balance with your RAW processing between noise reduction and image clarity and sharpness. Or, you can just use the Jpegs, which I must say, are very well processed, but when put up against the RAW files, can't compare to the detail, due to the noise reduction applied to the Jpegs. This is the one bit of a bummer about the image quality of this camera. You will see a decent amount of noise as low as ISO 400, though nothing that can't be dealt with in post until you pass 800. 1600 might be salvageable, but it's questionable. The nice thing is that the noise is more luminance than color oriented, because I find it's more difficult (as with the LX5) to deal with large blotches of inappropriate color. So, bad news dealt with. And it's really not that bad, because guess what? You've got one of the fastest lenses in a compact camera at your command. This means that you will rarely need to jump above ISO 800 to shoot just about anything. The speed of this lens is simply a marvel to behold, and a joy to employ. Not only does it allow you much, much more freedom in ALL your shooting (aperture only hits 2.5 at telephoto, which is still faster than most dslr lenses are at wide!), but the size of the sensor in relation to the aperture capability of the lens also allows for some of the nicest bokeh you'll find in a compact. Olympus also smartly employs an in-camera ND filter to help you keep those aperture numbers low whilst shooting in bright daylight, which is a godsend.
And despite what I've said about the noise issue, the images from this camera are, in general, pretty spectacular. This is no dslr, but the images are about as close as you'll get without buying one at this point. While the noise reduction applied to the jpegs definitely reduces fine details, they still look spectacular. The colors from this camera absolutely scream, and even if you're not fond of the detail loss in jpeg, just go for RAW shooting, which is still really, really fast. Shot to shot times are very fast, seemingly regardless of the file type (though I am using a very fast Sandisk card as well).
The continuous shooting speed of this camera isn't wonderful, but honestly, it's not bad when you consider that you can fire off quite a few pics (even with the images set at Fine Jpeg + RAW) before it gets stumped. You can also reduce the quality of the Jpegs to 5MP to grab some more fps, and even down to 2MP to grab even more fps, but I certainly wouldn't go that low.
Autofocus is generally good, though I did encounter some questionable choices when in macro mode that did annoy me a bit. However, you can choose between 11 different focus points to get the pic you want, or hold the shutter button down halfway and recompose. In general though, I found the autofocus to be reasonably fast and accurate thus far.
One other caveat is that for some reason the Auto WB seems to have trouble with incandescent lighting, creating overly warm tones and forcing you to manual select the incandescent setting for accurate colors. This is not a huge deal, but it's a bit of an annoyance.
The LCD screen is gorgeous, and while I wish the camera came with an EVF, Olympus has given us the ability to add the VF-2 viewfinder, which is both a great and, unfortunately, incredibly expensive option. I will be ordering the viewfinder, though I don't relish spending half the price of the camera on a tiny little accessory.
I look forward to many glorious outings with the XZ-1, and can honestly say that I highly recommend it to anyone looking to move up from a simple point and shoot, but not yet ready to go full on with a dslr and a bunch of lenses.
(UPDATE 1) Received my VF2 viewfinder today, and was able to try it out for a few hours before work. WOW. Talk about a quality product. I was concerned about the cost (and really I still am), but you definitely get a great little add-on. The picture is ultra clear and makes all other EVFs tremble before it. Obviously using it in daylight is great, but for me, coming from a dslr background, just having it was a no-brainer. And if I decide at some point to upgrade to the EPL2, I don't have to buy it again. So that made it worth it to me. Still loving the camera (even more with the viewfinder)!
(UPDATE 2) Man, I LOVE this camera. The VF2 viewfinder has increased my enjoyment of it by quite a lot, and I honestly didn't think that was possible. I could sit and nit-pick the image quality compared to dslr cameras, but it's just not worth it. Upping the sharpness and contrast applied to the jpegs makes them usable straight out of the camera, as long as you keep the ISO reasonable (800 or lower). Flipping the 'gradation' feature to auto can garner you better dynamic range in shadows as well as better detail, though you will experience more shadow noise, so use it wisely.
I certainly didn't buy this camera for the art filters, just thought they'd be a fun little addition... but they really do help me with my creative picture taking, and get me thinking about things from a different perspective. Highlights are the Grainy B&W (allows for some interesting videos as well), Diorama!(I've come to LOVE this one), and of course the popular Dramatic Tone. Soft Focus is useful as well for portraiture or weddings. The super fast lens allows me to shoot at ISO100-200 most of the time, occasionally venturing to 400 and, much more rarely, to 800. Also, make yourself take pics using the Monochrome setting. Turn up the sharpness to +1 and the contrast to +2, and behold the beautiful B&W photos this camera spits out. Pretty awesome.
Also great is the Macro and Super Macro. I'm not the biggest fan of the tracking AF though, a sports camera this is not, though the continuous shot is pretty decent in the right situations. Good for kids and such, but really fast movers like dogs can sometimes be problematic. Pretty much forget birds, but the range of this lens doesn't really allow for that anyway.
The bundled software is actually not bad either. I'm used to using PSE, so I use that for most everything, but I do a simple distortion correction in the Viewer 2 software first, which works quite well (the lens has some decent barrel at wide, and a little pincushion at tele, nothing really problematic).
All in all I can't say enough about this camera. If you're on the fence, just buy it. You can return it if you don't like it, but why would you do that? Kudos, Olympus!

I have worn them in the pool and they are more comfortable than my Apple ear buds. If they had the remote control for iPhone/iPod I would wear them on a regular basis.

it works well, the films are clear, water doesn't get in... so it definitely gets 5 stars for that
but i don't know who designed it... it doesn't fit snuggly the vado hd. actually you can probably put two vado's in there. but because of that we were happy to use it as a camera waterproof pouch as well so that's an added bonus.
i wish it came with a little smooth cloth to wrap it in because i'm constantly stressed that it will get scratched when it's not in use.
the bottom line: great films, but ugly looking!
