Polk Audio Atrium 5 Speakers (Pair, White) Review

I am an audiophile, I was looking for a desent sounding pair of outdoor speakers for my pool area. I was mostly concerned with build quality because I live in Florida and the elements can be very harsh here, especially for any type of speaker.
Well, Polk delivered what I needed, the specs are great, and you can really tell when you hold this speaker that it should hold up to the elements no problem at all. The bracket system is very well done, very user friendly and very adaptable to locations of all kinds. The only thing they don't provide is the screws for mounting, but simple enough. To my surprise, they sounded like a very good mid fi home two channel speaker set, honestly I was not expecting to sound as good as they do right out of the box. Break in time is long, but any thing of any quality (speaker wise) always is. Bass response is tight, but not over exaggerated. Bass is good, but more of a mid range shiner, vocals sound very realistic, highs are nice and clean even through MP3. However, a lot of people are Bass hungry, if you are one of them, this is not your speaker, you may want to go up to the higher end Atrium in the line that has the ported bass, that I would imagine would be enough for any outdoor event for most people.Placement also has a lot to do with sound, my speakers are overhead about 10ft off the ground, mounted horizonal, angled slightly down. (maybe 3 deg) I have them spaced about 8ft apart, this allows for good stereo sound at a short and long distance, that works with my area. My deck area is 30ft deep by 50ft long and was worried about this product "filling the air" but it does so nicely with a desent amp powering it. This is very well worth the money, and a great product, hard to find it dissapointing by any means for this price.

Sharp LC52LE830U Quattron 52-inch 1080p 120 Hz LED-LCD HDTV, Black Review

Noticed the Sharp 52" LCD - LED TV walking thru Sears - an amazing 2D picture that seems a little 3D. No interest in having to wear 3D glasses to watch TV. I am of the older generation and a sports fan.
Replaced a 4 year old 50" Sony LCD projection TV in Great Room. Have tried a Samsung 46" TV, great picture, poor video controls for non 1080p, ended up with a Sony 46" LCD TV in bedroom.
Installed the Sharp 52" Aquos TV 4 days ago. What a wonderful experience. TV is everything I expected and more.
Here are the highlights:
1. Great 1080p picture with more colors than experienced with other TVs due to Quad Pixel technology Green Red Blue and Yellow. Watched US Open golf and amazed at the bright colored shirts of the fans in the stands.
2. Smart Menu system with ability to adjust just about anything. Have used it to setup TV and Wireless Internet connection with a little help from Sharps customer support.
3. The Remote is nicely organized and has a button "View Mode" that allows you to instantly expand the TV source to fit the screen. This was buried 3 levels down in a menu on the 4 year old Sony 50. Now with one button you can fill the screen when playing an older DVD wide screen 2.35 or watching many non HDTV programs.
4. Best customer service group I have ever called. I actually read manuals but when I get stuck trying to implement something new - like Internet Wireless connection - good technical support is critical. Sharps customer support is wonderful. Some guy was patient and stepped me through setting up the Wireless Internet connection to my PC / Linksys Wireless Router. He then guided me to check Sharp HE LC52LE830U 52-Inch 1080p LCD TV -Blackmy new TV's firmware and we then over the Wireless connection updated the TV's firmware to the latest release.
The only CON:
1. Like most of the new flat panel TV's there are no forward facing speakers so clarity of voices seems muffled. I have bit the bullet and ordered a Sharp TV sound bar to remedy the situation. I have a wonderful Onkyo AV Receiver with full 5.1 surround sound but just want to play most TV programs and sportscasts with just good TV speaker sound.
I will update this review when I get the Sharp TV sound bar and have tried to download over Internet some movies.
George

I recently did some research into what the best 3D vision monitor is currently and came across this. As of this review, my research suggests that this monitor has the least level of crosstalk/ghosting of any LCD on the market.
Running at 120hz using the dual link DVI cable is nice but where this thing really shines is 3D. The overall 3D experience is great with the Nvidia 3D vision kit, it is a new level of immersion into video games. Its almost like your looking through a window into your game, giving everything depth. This is the future of gaming...
My system is: Core i5 2.6 ghz quad core, Nvidia GTX 570, 6 gigs of ram, and windows 7.

Rode NT5 Matched Pair of Instrument Condenser Microphones Review

Rode NT5 Matched Pair of Instrument Condenser Microphones

First off, I am an audio engineer, I recommend these pencil (cigar) condenser microphones to ANYONE. From live sound, to recording, to whatever. They sound so warm and full. I've used them on drums as overheads and on acoustic guitars and they sound amazing, check out some videos on youtube and my studio for some samples purevolume.com/ASideMobileStudios. I bought them refurbished, but there's nothing wrong with them thankfully. Very little hiss. Plus, they get a 10 year warranty. Make sure you register BOTH microphones on rodemic.com since they have different serial numbers. Not sure what else to comment on other than these are great microphones at a great price. Can't go wrong with these in your microphone collection!

Panasonic Lumix 14mm f/2.5 G Aspherical Lens for Micro Four Thirds Interchangeable Lens Cameras Review

Panasonic Lumix 14mm f/2.5 G Aspherical Lens for Micro Four Thirds Interchangeable Lens Cameras
Average Reviews:

When I first opened the box for this lens and pulled it out I couldn't believe it. It is unbelievably small which is a big reason for me purchasing this lens. The front lens cap is thinner than the one on the 20/1.7 and the rear lens cap is also thinner making the whole package even smaller. After reading reviews stating that this lens is a compromise with heavy vignetting I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, all I can say is that this lens is sharp. In the center of the frame it appears as sharp as my 20/1.7. On the edges maybe just a tad less sharp but not by much. As to vignetting, maybe a little but barely noticeable and only in some pictures of blank walls. It's a non issue. I am very happy with the image quality and when I look at this lens on the front of my E-PL1 I just feel amazed at the small size. This lens, coupled with my Panasonic 20/1.7 and a Voigtlander 40/1.4, makes the most wonderful compact kit that I have ever owned and that is the main reason why I converted from my Nikon to the micro 4/3 system. Would I like it if this lens was faster? Sure I would but then it would be bigger. Personally I say bravo to Panasonic for this lens.

Sonos ZonePlayer ZP100 Add-On Player Review

Sonos ZonePlayer ZP100 Add-On Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Sonos is truly an amazing product. I wanted a system that could both stream music wirelessly to multiple rooms in perfect sync OR send different songs to different rooms. Sonos is the only product that does this.
I've now had it for two days, and it's just a mind-blowing product. In addition to playing music in perfect sync, there are just so many things about Sonos that is well thought out. Just an example - I have a large music library, and on my iPod I find it very annoying to scroll through the lists. Sonos answer? Well, the Sonos remote has the same type of scrolling wheel, but also a set of three buttons that are used differently depending on what you are doing. When you are scrolling lists, one button is used for "Power Scrolling", which let's you pick the first letter, and once selected you've now jumpted to that section. Simple, but brilliant.
Another great feature - the ability to re-arrange/add to your playlists using only the remote! Locate a song and select it, and Sonos wilk ask you it want to play it now, play next, or at the end of the playlist. Or, re-arrange a playlist in free-form - just select a song, use wheel to "move it, then "place" it somewhere else.
And let's talk about the music library features...all other system I've seen do their own indexing, which typically is not done to your personal preferenes in terms of categories/genres, etc. So does Sonos...but Sonos offers an additional way of viewing your library - the folder structure on your computer! That way, I can browse my music the way I'm most familiar with it.
Controlling volume, letting multiple players play in sync, is all very simple to do - whether from the remote or from the PC/Mac software.
The link to Internet radio stations is awesome - I particularly like the integration with Rhapsody..the fact could instantly see all my existing playlists was truly mindblowing.
Other cool features...the Alarm and Clock (seems to be set correctly via the internet). Updating the software for the units and the remote was a breeze - the remote tells you an update is available, then installs and you're done.
I could go on and on about the coolness of this product...the fact it also acts as a network switch, that each unit allows additional sound inputs (allowing you to for instance plug in an iPod and play throughout the house), the ability to create playlists with songs from both your computer and Rhapsody, the equalizer, the individual room volume controls, the subwoofer out, the simplicity to add more players/zones...
Simply an amazing product, both the hardware, software, and the overall design.
Thank you, Sonos!

The bundles offer an easy, economical way to get in on the Sonos action. Then, when you're ready to expand you can purchase a ZP80 or ZP100 for more rooms in your home.
Sonos Setup You don't need to be a professional installer to set up a Sonos system, or a technical wizard to use it. Sonos was designed to work right out of the box. All you need is a high-speed Internet connection and a router to get started. Then, unpack your components, lay them out in your home, and the result will be music to your ears.
Software Sonos offers desktop software for PC and Mac that's as simple to use as the Sonos controller. Designed with a user interface to accommodate a larger screen, the Sonos Desktop Controller software for PC and Mac will guide you through both set up and music sharing. It offers all the same functionality as the Sonos Controller, but instead of being in the palm of your hand, it's all on your desktop.
Use the software to set up your system, as well as music sharing. It also helps you set up music folders on your hard drive so they can be shared across all ZonePlayers. The software provides control of your Sonos Digital Music System from your desktop, and you can use it to add and edit your choice of Internet radio stations.
What's in the Box Sonos ZonePlayer ZP100, power cord, ethernet cable, Sonos System Setup software CD-ROM (Windows 2000, Windows XP SP2 or Mac OS X v10.3 and v10.4), and Sonos Digital Music System Documentation.
