(More customer reviews)UPDATE: WEll I wanted to love this computer and did for the first 10 days or so. Right from the day 1, the HDMI cable would come loose from the back of the pc but I chalked that up to HDMI cable not the plug but after 3 HDMI cables, I will have to admit that the HDMI plug in the back of this pc is defective. Even if I am careful to not jar the pc in any way, the cable comes loose and my monitor gives an error message that it is not receiving a signal. Then I started getting a lot of video errors about the drivers and resolution and HP says this pc will not handle a monitor larger than 30" according to one HP tech and 15" according to another HP tech. The local geeks all say that they have 52" HDTVs set up on pcs with less memory and even shared memory instead of dedicated like this hp s5-1060 and they work fine so something is amiss or lacking in all video cards on this hp pc model. I have to return it. It is pretty annoying when the hdmi cable just falls out.
Also, my mouse and keyboard are about 9 feet from the pc and sometimes would work fine and other times had so much interference, I couldn't do anything but wait. Otherwise I would press for example e n g a g e and get instead enaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I set up this HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1060 Desktop Computer - Black by Mediabridge Ultra Series - High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet - Category 2 Certified - Supports 3D & Audio Return Channel [Latest HDMI Version Available] - (6 Feet) to Samsung LN52B630 52-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV with Red Touch of Color and I love it! I upgraded from Gateway GM5664 with Windows Vista. The actual pc is half the size of my previous regular-sized tower adding a very sleek and contemporary look to livingroom. I love both the wireless keyboard and mouse - also sleek and sexy both to the eye and to the touch. Setup went very smoothly other than that and I would definitely recommend googling your questions rather than asking HP support; you will be much more likely to get an accurate helpful answer.
For example, the picture cut off all around and HP Support told me it doesn't support 52" with its 1/2GB DEDICATED memory and told me to return this pc to Amazon and purchase from them a HP Elite with 1GB dedicated video memory; but it does work just fine - you just have to get the setting correct. On your samsung hdtv, go into picture settings and select "fit picture to screen" and check to make sure all your other settings are correct as well. My local Fry's Electronics has pcs hooked up to 52" HDTV with less dedicated memory and even less SHARED memory. My set-up is super fast and super fun - no delays.
The optical drive is vertical but works great. A push of a button and the tray slides out gently and another push of the button, and it slides gently back in.
Also I am using a Logitech Harmony One Universal Remote with Color Touchscreen with it that I just adore. So I have setting on the Harmony One for watch tv, watch dvd, and generic activity. Generic activity switches my hdmi input to this HP pc. So I just leave the computer running all day and use my harmony one to control what shows up on my Samsung LN52B630 - tv, dvd, or pc..... While Logitech doesn't have the HP s5-1060's remote settings pre-programmed, you can manually add all the functions of the s5-1060's remote into the Harmony One remote (such as My Music, My Videos, etc) so that you are just using one remote instead of separate remotes for Windows Media Center, your tv, your dvd player, your dvr, etc.
PC TV tuners will not work with Times Warner or Cox Cable DVR box. There is a place to plug in the IR sender into the back of their DVR Cable boxes but these plugs come inactive from the manufacturer; they are ordered and received by TW/CC in the state of no signal is sent out from the IR. I can use the remote to access my Windows Media Center and watch live internet tv but I can not watch/record tv through the built-in tv tuner as Times Warner and Cox Cable do not currently offer that ability on their DVRs. I am curious which television service providers offer the IR signal so that one can use the pc tv tuner; please comment what is your service provider if you can get tv tuner (not internet tv) received on your pc tv tuner. HPs5-1060 does have a place on the tv tuner card to screw in a cable so I tried moving the cable input feed from the back of the cable box to the back of the pc in the tv tuner card and of the 300 HD channels I get (including Showtime channels), Windows Media Center was able to locate only 14 channels all local stuff nothing exciting so that hardly makes it worth getting a splitter as video/audio quality was greatly diminished as well. So the remote that comes with this will control all the Windows Media Centre functions EXCEPT for live tv unless you have a television service provider that gives a infra-red (IR) signal. If you are able to receive the IR signal coming out of a box that is transmitting the IR signal than I am guessing you will be able to receive all the channels as the box as they are now descrambled - I wonder if the quality is as good as I pay $10 extra every month for HiDef. My s5-1060 is connected wirelessly to D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Gigabit Wireless Router which is connected to Cox Cable and we have not noticed any delays. The keyboard and mouse are about 10 feet away and have worked fine all but one day so I moved the usb adapter to the front of the hp pc for a more direct line of sight and that resolved that problem. I am loving everything about this pc!
We used the Free XBox 360 4GB for students promotion and we just got the link to receive the XBox late next week.
Also I just want to add that I really like Windows 7. I was deeply disappointed every time Windows came out with a new version. This is the first time that I actually prefer their so-called upgrade and would consider it as being worth even paying money for!!! I do not like that there is no more Windows Mail and now you have to upgrade to Windows Live Mail.
Also, I do not like Belkin Easy Transfer Cable for Windows 7 as it made a huge mess. I was wanting it to move my passwords as that is the only thing I do not know how to move to a new computer. It did not move my passwords. It moved the things I wanted moved only to the wrong places! Also it moved all the junk that comes pre-installed that you were thinking finally you were going to get rid of. Now you get the junk from the first computer installed on your new computer! JUNK JUNK JUNK. Save yourself the heartache/headache and just use a usb cable or flash drive.
I am very happy with my HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1060 Desktop Computer; it is exactly what I have been waiting for!
