(More customer reviews)These are not your average, tinny iPod speakers. I have never owned an iPod speaker before, nor had I heard of Kanto, but I have heard other people's speakers and these blow the little guys away.
First of all, when I opened the box there were no cables except for the power cable in the box. Bummer. It was past 9 pm EST on a Friday night, and I thought to myself, "OK, you are SOL until Monday." I called Kanto's customer service (which is in British Columbia, btw) just for the heck of it and was surprised to be immediately connected to a VERY polite gentleman who apologized countless times for the shortage of cables and promised to send them out immediately. Which he did. I had the cables by the following Wednesday. He sent them FedEx Express! Coming from Canada that's three business days, since they had to clear customs and all that. So that was very impressive customer service, indeed! No questions asked, no hassle, extremely friendly and very, very efficient. He even called me back after we'd hung up the first time to confirm that I had the power cord, which I was not missing. I doubt you can say the same for those made-in-China speakers, or for many companies, really.
When I got the cables I found I had misplaced the directions (DOH!) and so I had to wing it. Not that I didn't want to call Kanto CS again, because that would have been a pleasure, I'm sure, but I wanted to listen to my speakers immediately. So I went to work hooking them up to my TV. The speaker-to-speaker cable is amazing. I was not expecting such quality. Granted, this is an expensive set, but it really is a nice, thick, cable that should last for the life of the unit. My husband joked about stealing it for his electric guitar. I was able to hook everything up to the TV, S-Video and all, in about 3 seconds flat without instructions. I tried the set out, and it sounds AMAZING. I really had no idea what I was missing before. I am thrilled that I can even play videos from my iPod on my TV and charge it while it's docked. I did not even need an adapter to use the dock with my iPod video.
The speakers are very substantial and beautiful. They are very heavy. I was surprised at the heft of the box when it was delivered. I know these will last a long, long time. They are very shiny and attractive. We have them separated by about two feet on our TV stand. They are at floor level, which sounds great. They are not very portable, but if you want portable you wouldn't be looking at these anyway. It's not like you can't move them, you probably just wouldn't want to. They certainly won't break if you do.
I have no complaints about this system. Even the remote seems fine to me. I'm sure I will discover many more things to love about this as I use it more in the weeks to come.
