CDJ1000 MK2 Review

CDJ1000 MK2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Despite of all magazine reviews, the Pioneer CDJ-1000Mk2 is the new 1200 of the industry (if you know what i am talking). It has 4 types of pich 6% 10% 16% and Wide (a.k.a 100%) the large very large Dial, that has very touch sensitve feeling so if you are scrach DJ, or any type this is the most versatile dial you can buy... forget denon.. forget techics (the new one.. not the mk2)... this is the baby every one has on raves and big shows. the screen is brighter than the Mk1 version (even do, i havent seen mk1 in action).
it has revers funtions, that allows to back spin the cd even if scraching... also its quick!! loading and un-loading, it has 3 cue points, so if you are undecide , set them up and change your mind with out setting up again the cue points
the only bad thing about this cd player its that its expensive so if you are one of those bedroom DJ, you might wana wait till you get 2k so you can buy a pair.

Crosley CR17 iJuke Mini Jukebox Review

Crosley CR17 iJuke Mini Jukebox
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I selected this item at no cost to myself as part of an employee award program mainly for entertainment value for the kids. It is a very fun item with the flashing lights, bubbling neon looking lights and mini jukebox shape, so keep in mind this item is only for the light and young at heart. It adds fun to a small room quite well which is what it is supposed to do, so I guess it's a success.
Where I disagree with the first two reviewers is regarding the sound quality. It has one four-inch full range paper speaker for each channel and the sound reflects this basic cheapness. Of course if has no bass at all and with an external power supply providing only 14 volts and 2 amps, bass is not possible. The lack of bass I can understand but the lack of crisp highs and any sort of detail I cannot. The sound is below the standard of most computer speakers. The sound cannot come close even to $100 iPod docking stations. For a street selling price of $200 I would have expected better. You have to try to mess up digital sound, the iJuke has done just that and it's clear from the cheap old-school speakers that not even Crosley intended the iJuke to be a music device. My kids love it anyway because it's fun. I'm bitter that I have no reason to listen to it.
The unit is lightly and cheaply made and I give the remote 6 months of use before it stops working.
The second item is, my unit broke within 30 days of new. One of the tubes pulled out of the bubblers in plain sight on the front panel and stopped working. Crosley has not responded to my requests for a return authorization number, neither by phone or by e-mail as the website says will happen.
So in my opinion be aware you are shelling out $200 for a low quality toy if you buy this item. If you have money to burn, don't expect sound on par with docking stations half the price, or don't expect anything more than infrequent bursts of entertainment for the kids then it's an OK purchase.

Toshiba Satellite M645-S4055 LED TruBrite 14-Inch Laptop (Black) Review

Toshiba Satellite M645-S4055 LED TruBrite 14-Inch Laptop (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was deciding between this (Toshiba Satellite M645-S4055 LED TruBrite 14-Inch Laptop (Black)) and the ASUS 14 in bamboo (ASUS U43JC-X1 14-Inch Bamboo Laptop (10 Hours of Battery Life)) which was the same price, but the ASUS was on pre-order forever it seemed and this one was out of stock or available elsewhere for more $$. I happened to catch it back in stock one night 8/5/10. I needed to replace a 5+ yr old HP laptop and a 2 yr old HP desktop, so I wanted the power of a desktop (or near) with the portability of a laptop, and I really like the size/weight of the 14 in. This Toshiba and the ASUS were pretty even on many specs - hard drive, 1 gb graphics, RAM, keyboard style, OS, i5 processor, etc - so at the time it came down to availability and features. I say at the time because now that the ASUS is available, it also comes with a 150 GC which I can always use. That would've probably made me wait on the ASUS had that been made known when it was still on pre-order.
ASUS over Toshiba:
Longer battery life, 8 cell vs 6 cell on the Toshiba
USB 3.0 - currently don't have a use but good for the future
WiDi - I currently don't have a use for it
Bamboo finish - very nice looking, would look great just sitting on the end table!
And for a limited time, that it comes with a 150 gift card, making it the cheaper option
Toshiba over ASUS:
Graphics card (both 1 gb NVIDIA plus integrated, but Toshiba's is 330 vs ASUS 310)
RAM - 8 gb max - both come with 4 gb but that's where ASUS maxes out
Sound - reportedly better on the Toshiba but I can't say for sure, I know it sounds good and full to me
Keyboard - backlit
Sleep & Charge USB port - bonus but not essential for me
Sleep & Music - bonus but again not essential
Labelflash printing - pretty cool and might use this, so far haven't tried it
Have also seen on a couple of reviews that even though the ASUS has a 2.0 mp webcam, the quality isn't good. I don't use a webcam much so this wouldn't have been a dealbreaker either.
Trackpad buttons - two instead of one like the ASUS. I've used the ASUS on a 14 in thin & light I got for my nephew and it's awkward, though I'm sure one can get used to it in time.
Bluetooth - you have to get the ASUS U43JC-A1 to get bluetooth for more money.
At the same price, I think the Toshiba is probably the better deal, however the ASUS with the 150 GC would've been the better deal of the two.
Now that I have the Toshiba, what do I think? It's great so far, though nothing's perfect! The fusion finish is pretty neat and I wasn't sure what to expect based on the pictures.
Keyboard, Trackpad, mouse buttons - I like the slight pattern on the trackpad, have a better feel of where I am on it without feeling like it's friction. As expected, the backlit keyboard is nice. The keyboard itself is good, the spacing, not soft, haven't noticed any flex. The keys are "slick" - at first it felt odd but getting used to it. There's a row of "buttons" at the top that are touch buttons - they control sound level, play/pause, wifi, and eco mode. These stay lit for easy access, as does a small light bar above the trackpad. The trackpad also has an easy on/off button above it.
DVD Playback - I've burned DVD's with no problem. I went to play back a dvd I had just burned to check it, and playback was stuttering, I was worried. However, the laptop had been on for days - I rebooted and all was well, playback was fine. Playing a movie was great, smooth, and the sound was full (the movie 2012). The slot loading dvd drive made a little more noise than I expected at times like during software installation but maybe that's normal? Something I'm going to monitor to make sure there's not a problem. I plan to do some home movie type editing, the reason I wanted the 1 gb VRAM and a decent processor, so have to make sure the noise doesn't indicate an impending problem.
Battery Life - I'm averaging about 4 hrs when I run it all the way down. Though longer battery life would've been nice, I don't travel much at all and it would be rare that I'd need to run off of battery any longer than that. I believe a higher capacity battery is available though (12 cell) if I decide I need it. I looked into that before purchasing.
Windows 7 - I had only had brief experience with Win7, while working on others' computers so this was my first real taste of it. Was still using XP except had Vista on a desktop (that is being sold now!). So far I like it, and def better than Vista. There's a slight learning curve but there are some things I have set so that things like the task bar at the bottom are more like I'm used to. I was also able to install a 32-bit software that I wasn't sure would install and run, much to my surprise. The software is several years old but it's a title I like and am used to, and was sad to think I couldn't use it. Installation however was smooth and it is running just like it did on my old XP laptop (just faster!).
WiFi - I have a Cradlepoint router with N (verizon mobile internet), and had no problems connecting to it. Also have a WiFi printer (Epson Artisan 810) - went to the Epson site first to get the right Win7 64 bit drivers and am able to print and scan via WiFi as well.
Noise - For the most part it's quiet. My old HP laptop and desktop were deafening at times. It's not as quiet as the Dell I use for work, but close.
Heat - Warm (just near the back) but bearable - Though they never recommend it, I can sit it on my lap without feeling like I'll need burn cream after. Keyboard, trackpad, etc have all stayed cool.
Software/Bloatware - Not bad, not as much as I thought there would be and is usually on new machines. I uninstalled Norton AV since I already have a multi-user license for McAfee Total Protection. McAfee downloaded, installed and is running with no problems. I have not tried the Toshiba online backup and don't plan to. It keeps reminding me which is annoying so I've got to see how to stop that. If I need online backup the McAfee I have actually comes with it. I transferred all my email over to Windows Live Mail from another computer. Comes with IE but I installed and use Firefox.
Office 2007 Trial - Mentioning this specifically because I saw a review of another M645 model that they had problems with the trial. I didn't use it, I already had Office 2007 Enterprise, so I uninstalled the trial and installed my version.
Update 8/27/10 - Picture posted. Finally stuck a SD card in, and you know how most laptops (at least my last 3) you have to push the card in til it clicks and sometimes it doesn't want to? Don't on this one. It slides in smoothly right up front (under the indicator lights, right of touchpad) and it sticks out just slightly, even less because of the angled front.

Yamaha RX-Z7BL 7.1-Channel High-End Network Home Theater Receiver (Black) Review

Yamaha RX-Z7BL 7.1-Channel High-End Network Home Theater Receiver (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had mine for a couple of months and am completely pleased with the purchase. At first I had my doubts, since I've always had much more expensive component systems. This is my fourth Yamaha receiver, but the others I used for the kids, and for the whole-house stereo system.
I had just switched from a 9" crt projector to a Panasonic 3000 LCD projector, and decided that going fully digital was in order. I spent weeks reading reviews, downloading both user and service manuals for about a dozen brands and models. When all was said and done the decision really was quite easy. This thing has virtually everything a person could want.
I have a large dedicated theater that is designed for both reclining and listening to music, or for viewing movies on a 120" screen. I have carefully assembled a system that does both flawlessly, and I didn't want to mess it up when it came to this purchase. This came as close as I could have hoped for. Mind you, it isn't as good as my old system when it comes to sound. But then my power amp alone was $4500, and could power a normal full-sized movie theater's speaker system.
This does have plenty of power for my nine-speaker setup. It just has a hair less detail in the sound. Before I could hear if a pianist hadn't fully trimmed his or her fingernails, because you could hear the ends click when they hit the ivory on the piano keys. This doesn't quite get there.
That being said, my wife likes this much better because she hated hearing every tiny detail, especially the bad mixing and mic placement on so many recordings. She especially hated listening to Midori play the Paganini caprices - hearing Midori slide her fingers into position when my wife had spent years believing that to be one of the best performances ever. She is back to loving the performance, and I have to say I like it better too. Detail can get a bit overrated, because you get the bad with the good.
As to video, this thing leaves nothing to be desired. One of my DVD players is an Oppo 981, which always gets great reviews, and is an excellent player, especially for upconversion of older DVDs to 1080p. At first I was just going to have this pass the signal straight through without any alteration. After going back and forth a bunch of times I actually chose to have this receiver do the conversion on everything, from the analog sources as well as the digital ones. It does a top-notch job and I have no complaints.
That being said, there are so many choices and possibilities it almost gets to the point of being frustrating. As you pop through the possibilities of hearing the music in a cathedral in Munich or a church in Freiburg it is pretty easy to lose focus on finding what sound you really like. My suggestion is to relax in an easy chair, close your eyes, and have someone else do the changing of settings so that you really do select the best setting.
For those building their system up from something of lesser quality (meaning most of the units out there), or for those who have been like me and have gotten tired of lugging around massive components that take up lots of room and generate lots of heat, this has something for most everyone to like.
The possible negatives of the unit are: needs at least a couple of inches of ventilation on the top for air circulation (could just hook-up a 90 or 120mm computer case fan if things are tight); like most of these receivers the remote (there actually are two remotes that come with (one full function and the other a stripped down model)) could be better and might take a little trial and error; for those like me who are used to having more than one subwoofer this is designed for just one (although my Supernova Earthquake 15" nearly knocked marble off the wall in the master bath when I was watching the newer version of War of the Worlds).
1/29/2010 Just wanted to say that I have installed the firmware updates and have yet to have a single negative thing occur concerning this receiver. Originally I screwed a few things up and Yamaha support always got back within a day. Turns out I was at fault, but one interesting item is that I had an audio CD in the player and thought it was a DVD. The output gave me a green screen, and that really had me scratching my head, and that of the Yamaha engineer, until I checked what was in there. Otherwise, I have been using the PS3 for the Blu-ray movies, Oppo for standard, and absolutely everything has been superb. Odd to have not one complaint.
12/15/2010 Not really anything to add except it works flawlessly. I still wish there were fewer choices in terms of shaping the audio output. When I find a setting I really like with one kind of music it might be a month before I come back to it again. It might help if I kept a notebook by it and just made notes as to the combinations I like. I still mostly keep it on seven-channel stereo unless I really don't like how it sounds. Other than that I haven't even looked at my old equipment for months now. As stated before, there has not been a single issue with this receiver. I'm 100% satisfied.

I got the kvt-512 along with the kna-510 installed in my 06 TSX. So far, all is good and no real complaint. The unit is loaded with features and options so what you can do with it is limitless. I have this unit connect through my factory head unit but the sound is still pretty good. The dvd is nice and clear and the navi works great. The touch screen is very responsive as well. I really like the fact that it plays mp3s off of a dvd. It is also convenient that it comes with a usb port to play mp3s off of. You can buy a ipod adaptor but why when you can get a cheap usb drive to play your music out of. I have it connected to a 8 gig thumb drive(bought for like $15) that I perminantly keep on there since it is plenty to hold all of my music.
You have to touch the screen on a unmarked location to activate the menu control options which is something I need to get used to. So far...I am definitely enjoying my new toy.

Acer AS8943G-9429 18.4-Inch Laptop (Aluminum) Review

Acer AS8943G-9429 18.4-Inch Laptop (Aluminum)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a nice machine. But if you need the 2nd hard drive that they claim to support you are out of luck. It does not ship with the kit to install the 2nd drive, and three calls to acer tech support, two calls to their recommended 'parts vendors' and a call to amazon.com have all been fruitless: The bracket and cover needed are not available. Maybe you can buy it preconfigured with two drives. But, you won't be adding one later without doing some metal work and cutting off some bits of plastic. Which probably voids your warranty.
As to why: It looks like there is not much airflow in that spot. Maybe they had heat and reliability problems with regular drives, so they decided to pretend they can't cough up a mounting kit. I want to put a solid-state drive there, so there should be no problem.
I'm still debating whether to hack a solution, or send it back. Three stars 'cause they lied to me about the 2nd drive. Would be 4.5 stars except for that (minus 0.5 stars for the weird keyboard). Caveat emptor.
UPDATE: In the end I sent it back and got a full refund.

Jensen Vm9312 7-Inch Motorized Touch Screen Multimedia Receiver Review

Jensen Vm9312 7-Inch Motorized Touch Screen Multimedia Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Some might consider this a lower end product, due to the fact that it's about half the price of it's nearest competition. Rest assured, the 'cheap' stigma is in price alone. It's an easy to use, easy to adjust, and fun to use deck that even the least tech-savvy of car owners can operate easily.
First off, I was surprised at how good the picture is. I never feel like I'm watching on a tiny screen, or squinting to make out details. The sound is also good, although at times during dvd playback, I thought it was a bit quiet. I haven't tried using a satellite radio or iPod yet, but for cd and mp3-cd playback it worked well, with great options for navigating through folders.
Few warnings for those thinking of buying this product;
-Player automatically reverts to full volume after being powered down. Can be a bit of a shocker if you're not ready for it.
-When going into the input menu or setup menu, there's a break in the audio for about 1-1.5 seconds. This isn't really a big deal, but is becoming more and more annoying the more it happens.
-It has some trouble recognizing the track title of most store bought discs, substituting song names with "Track 1, Track 2" etc... Not an issue with mp3 discs with ID3 tags.
-There's no option to fast-forward an mp3. I thought this would be a big deal, which prevented me from buying this deck for a while. Not really an issue.
Considering the price, it's a really decent deck. Intuitive controls, easy installation, and fun to show off. Other than a few minor (and probably easily remedied) issues, I'd definitely recommend this deck.

ASUS TS Mini SOHO Server (500GB Storage) Review

ASUS TS Mini SOHO Server (500GB Storage)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In searching for a server, I wanted something easy on the electricity in order to keep it on all day. If this does indeed use only 27 watts when at max operating, it's perfect.
I use it for file storage, having WinAmp running at all times to be able to remotely (via Ipod Touch) turn on to stream to an Airport Express with Airfoil (iTunes gave me problems, read below), run uTorrent all the time, and stream to a WD TV Live.
It's doing all these things for me perfectly. The only thing I don't run on it that I had planned on is PlayOn to stream Hulu to the WD TV Live. The CPU is lacking for this, so I do run PlayOn from my laptop when needed.
In installing iTunes to WHS via instructions found on the net, I got it to install, but had the "stuttering/pausing" problem with iTunes. I have this happen once in a long while on my laptop, but with the Server, it was pausing every 3 seconds or so, continuously. I found if I had QuickTime player running, this got rid of the stutter for some reason, but QuickTime then consumed 50-60% CPU constantly. I didn't want to subject the CPU to this, so I switched to WinAmp and Airfoil, and the combination is working fine for my purposes. I'm still able to remotely control WinAmp with my Ipod Touch with a iAmpRemote, although with less capabilities that the Apple Remote and iTunes gives you (sort by artist, song, etc).
My server sits in my family room, so I also installed a USB sound card with XP drivers to the server, and can route sound directly from the server to my stereo via the USB Sound card.
So far, I've been very pleased with it. The Atom Processor is capable for what I use it for (and more so if you don't intend to run things like Winamp/iTunes, etc on it). Anything that takes a CPU power, like PlayOn to process video, will run slowly and not so well on it. So consider the trade offs of the small lower power consuming CPU, versus CPU power needed.

Harman Kardon HK3480 Stereo Receiver Review

Harman Kardon HK3480 Stereo Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A couple of months ago my old and very simple Sony equipment started to give up on me after years of use. So I started to look for a good replacement for it.
Since this was meant to be a replacement to be located at my bedroom and mostly for music playing, my first idea was to look for one of those popular mini-systems with everything integrated on them. I found some interesting products from Onkyo and Denon but, although their sound was quite nice (especially Denon's), I found that their power was somehow limited.
Then, I decided to look for some of those "Home Theater in a box" systems that are so popular nowadays, even if I would use it primarily for music reproduction! I tried Sony, Kenwood and Denon. I found an interesting Denon system, but before buying it I decided to bring along a couple of my own CDs in order to try it out with my own music!
The next day I took a couple of my favourite CDs with me to try them with the Denon. I chose Mahler's Symphony #3 (with Boulez), Andreas Scholl's "Ombra mai fu", some Dead Can Dance and Air's "Moon Safari". It really sounded nice but since I had those CDs with me I decided to make a last visit to the department store where I had seen the Denon and Onkyo mini-systems before making a final decission.
An hour later I visited this department store and went to their audio department. Instead of looking for the mini-systems I went directly to the high-end audio area. Among the various Onkyos, Marantz, Denons and Yamahas I noticed Harman Kardon's new HK-3480, and I immediately liked the looks of it's new design! Then, I contacted a salesman and after telling him that I mostly listen to classical music (although my other musical tastes are quite varied), he suggested me to give the Harman Kardon a try!
I was able to compare the Harman Kardon with the Denons (both the mini-system and the Home Theater options). After some listening I was convinced that a nice stereo system was more than enough for me. The power and sheer clarity of sound of Harman Kardon's HK-3480 was immediately noticeable!
We first tried it with a couple of Yamaha speakers, then with Cerwin-Vega, Infinity and finally with Polk. Boy oh boy, what a beautiful sound the Polk's have, cristal clear and absolutely gorgeous!!! Besides, they look so sharp! We finally added an Infinity subwoofer and there it was, the perfect setup for me! I was really ready to make a final decission! I bought Harman Kardon's HK-3480 reciever along with H-K's FL-8385 CD player, a pair of Polk's RTi8 speakers and Infinity's PS10 subwoofer. What a difference from my old and humble Sony setup! By the way, if you choose Polk speakers like I did, get the black ones, they look great along Harman Kardon's silver and black design!
The HK-3480 receiver works great! There are more than enough connections inputs on it, including several for audio/video and a phono input too (now I'm also thinking about replacing my old Technics for a brand new turntable). The HK-3480 is surely a great receiver for those who want top quality stereo sound, but it should me mentioned that with the VMAx feature on this receiver you can have simulated surround sound too when you need it!
I now feel that all of a sudden my CD collection doubled in size since every single CD in my collection sounds so much better now! I'm rediscovering music that I bought 10 or 15 years ago! What a joy!!!

Not everyone wants or needs a 5.1-channel receiver, which is where this HK3480 two-channel receiver from Harman Kardon comes into play. This ultra-high-bandwidth, 240-watt unit is perfect for fans of jazz, classical, or rock, as its powerful features bring out both the bombast and the nuance of your favorite music. The HK3480 is also one of the few stereo receivers to employ VMAx technology, a proprietary signal-processing technique that simulates a 360-degree sound field through a mere two speakers. The technology gives the listener the sensation of sitting in a concert hall or theater without requiring a surround sound setup.Though the HK3480 is designed primarily for music, it also pumps out high-quality audio for your TV, DVD player, VCR, and video game console. It includes enough inputs for each of these components, along with composite video switching that allows you to conveniently switch between them. And unlike many current receivers, the unit offers a high-quality phono input (with preamp) for people who treasure the unique sound of LPs and don't want to give up their lifelong record collections. The HK3480 also comes with an AM/FM tuner with 30 station presets, a three-step fluorescent display, and a multicomponent remote control. As with most modern receivers, it's ready to serve as the audio centerpiece of all your listening needs, with seven audio inputs and four video inputs (including one on the front panel). The inputs are gold-plated for quality. The unit also comes with pre-out/main-in jacks for use with external amplifiers or speaker processors and a separate subwoofer output. Hookup is simple due to the color-keyed connections. The receiver's tuner section offers exceptional performance, from its high signal-to-noise ratio (73 dB in mono, 72 dB in stereo) to high (40 dB) channel separation for superior stereo imaging--not to mention strong tuning abilities with the help of better-than-80-dB image rejection and better-than-100-dB IF (intermediate frequency) rejection. This component is equipped with a nonvolatile EEPROM (Electrically Erasable and Programmable Read-Only Memory) that preserves tuner presets and system configuration information, even when the unit is not connected to a main power source. What's in the Box Stereo receiver, remote control, two AAA batteries, user's manual, and warranty/registration information.

Klipsch Synergy KSW12 12-inch 105-watt Powered Subwoofer Review

Klipsch Synergy KSW12 12-inch 105-watt Powered Subwoofer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having heard this sub while back, I have to agree with the first reviewer. It's acceptable for HT use, but poor for music; regardless of their nonsense about dynamic power.
Although, movies may get away with "large, short-term peaks of power", many music will demand nearly constant, power. In virtually all movies, special effects and sound tracks last only a few seconds; all most all of it is a dialog between the actors. Certainly, there is no bass in dialogs. Music is different. I mean, how often do you hear a couple note of bass, followed by few more notes several minutes later?
I'm not sure where some of the reviewers get their information, but there is no such thing as a "crisp & sharp" bass. Crisp & sharp implies, fast rise time, which means there are significant higher harmonic(high frequency) contents in the sound. Anyone who understand the concept of harmonics and Fourier series should understand this. The "crisp & sharp" part of the "bass" comes from the satellites. The most common reason why some bass sounds muddy/boomy is because of poor integration between the satellites and the sub or due to the standing waves caused by the sub-room interaction.
I also don't get how anyone can get "imaging" from a mono sub. Even if you use two subs, low frequency sounds are difficult to localize. This is the very reason why you can place the subs significant distance from the satellites.
The rattling of the object in the room has EVERYTHING to do with the bass, regardless of the distortion. Obviously, the reviewer has never experienced the room pressurized by two 15" subs driven by 1000+ watt pro-audio amplifier. You can barely hear it, but you will definitely feel it. If you have never heard/felt a real sub, then you really don't have a good reference point to judge the other subs. All you can do is note the significant improvement KSW-12 made over the original 8-inch "sub".
That being said, the KSW-12's low end of the frequency response is bit lacking for an "almost-high end sub". It seemed to struggle with the loud rap, as well as the classical music. For movies, it wasn't as bad. It handled most action scenes well, but combat scenes with exaggerated explosions, the sub clearly ran out of gas.
Objectively, the specs are some what misleading. Why would anyone spec the subs at 1/8-space? I've seen half and 1/4-space specs, but 1/8-space? Also, how dynamic is the "dynamic power"? This sounds too much like my plastic 2" 100 watt(PMPO) multimedia speakers I had back in college.
In short, KSW-12 has respectable volume, but is unsuitable for continuous music with significant bass content. It also doesn't have the low end impact. It's spec are completely unrealistic and you won't get anything near the listed spec in a typical living/family room playing music, or movies with heavy action sequences. In the end, it's only a bit better than a typical consumer level 12" sub.

REVIEW: Complete a powerful home theater system with the deep, driving bass of the Klipsch KSW-12 powered subwoofer--perfect for combing with high-performance Klipsch Synergy Series surround sound configurations. It couples a 12-inch driver to the floor for optimal performance. This subwoofer's high-output, down-firing design "grips" the air and fills a room with low frequency energy that's heard and felt with undetectable distortion. The built-in discrete MOSFET amplifier and 12-inch fiber-composite woofer are as efficient as they are reliable. It provides 105 watts of FTC-rated continuous power, and it has a dynamic power rating of 440 watts. (Dynamic power indicates the actual power this amplifier will deliver to the woofer under normal operating conditions.)
The woofer is composed of a Santoprene rubber surround with a fiber composite cone which enables Klipsch subwoofers to deliver on their promise of extended bass response and maximum reliability. This subwoofer accepts LFE, line-level, and speaker level inputs, making it easy to add to the Quintet Microsystem, the Synergy System 6, or any other Klipsch inspired arrangement. The KSW-12's jet ash veneer vinyl finish creates a deceivingly subtle exterior for its earthshaking sound capabilities.

It's unfortunate about the previous poster but I have the same unit and it is incredible! The unit has all the bells and whistles that you would expect on a much higher priced receiver. Do some research on the the chips used in this thing, they are incredible and are found only in a $5000 high end competitors line. The weakness of this receiver is that it can sometimes be too rich of a sound and lacks the crisp high that some look for because, honestly the degraded sound that we have received from companies like Sony and what we listen to in our cars have ruined our idea of what even sounds are. Just a side note, one of my buddies was the one who brought this "weakness" to my attention because he said it didn't have enough high range. I told him well watch the whole movie and lets see how fatigued your ears feel. Afterward, he was amazed how nice and easy it is to listen to this HK. The strength is it's punch and ability in the home theater to make gun fire sound like gun fire and not rocks being thrown against a tin roof. HK doesn't disappoint in my opinion with this receiver and it's too bad one customer, and the only review had a experience that is honestly out of this world. HK customer support is probably one of the best in the world, and are often recognized for that fact. Besides one month old and breaks, why not take it back to Best Buy?

Sony Bravia KDL-46EX600 46" HDTV LED- LCD TV True Cinema technology Review

I purchased this TV form Wal-Mart for $998 with a Blu-ray player included.
This TV does everything okay, nothing really stands out as far as the picture or sound. Having said that, there are no problems with this TV either. It is attractive, slim, and lightweight and has a nice picture. The very best functional property is the Bravia Sync button which allows the Blu-ray player (and/or PS3) to work flawlessly with the TV (if it is a Sony, not sure about other brands). If you turn on your Blu-ray, the TV turns on and switches to the correct input. Turn off the TV and the Blu-ray shuts off. It is genius really. AND IT WORKS! As I said the picture is fine, although I have never really been able to "tweak" the colors to be exactly how I like them, once I begin viewing it looks good.
The lighting system seems to work well (it adjusts to the amount of light in your room) I say seems to work b/c I never notice it. I guess that's a good thing though.
Final opinion:
If you are in the market for an LED LCD TV, this is a really nice choice for a good price. This is a nice TV and I think you'll agree for the money it delivers.
(one side note: The sound volume isn't that pronounced, I find myself turning movies WAY up while Xbox360 games need to be turned WAY down. I don't know why this is but a Blu-ray is so quiet that I sometimes get annoyed...of course turning the TV up past 50% fixes that but there is something inside me that doesn't like to do that)

I currently use a Acer W 500 windows machine as my portable computer. I wanted a smaller light android tablet to use around the house, on the train to listen to music, watch videos, check mail and surf the web. Read all the reviews on many 7 inch tablets and settled on this one. Wally is selling this at an incredible price, and I could not resist. I have a Android Phone (Samsung intercept)so I knew how to use this tablet from the start. Here are the pros and con:
PROS:
Touch screen works perfectly, better than many capacitive screens
Very light weighs .8 lb also very thin .5 thick
Came with a 8gb micro SD card
Kindle for Android works great for reading Ebooks
Web surfing is fast, the included browser works fine (no need to upgrade)
Mail apps make it a breeze to check email
Tablet comes with Docs to go (which is a great app)
WiFi connects fast to my network
Bluetooth music to my headphones works perfectly
Plenty of memory for the processor to function quickly (420mb)
Built in FM radio (I also use tunein radio app for fm and am)
Battery life is great (haven't run it past 40% despite using it for hours)
Operation is very fast, and there are many fantastic apps to download from the Android market
Cons:
Does not have 3G built in
Does not play all videos or flash
No HDMI output
162mb app memory (wish it had more)
No front facing camera only a rear camera (not really a con for me I use my Acer for skype)I'm liking this tablet more and more! This tablet allows me to connect without having to sign a contract with the big wireless cellphone companies. I ordered the Virgin Mobile MiFi 2200 which will convert the 3G signal to wifi which this tablet accepts easily. Will comment after I receive it. For my problem with some videos, I have downloaded many video players from the market and found the Mobo player to work the best. All in all I am very happy with this unit, using it out by the pool, on the deck, in the house. Great unit!
UPDATE: received the Virgin Mobile MiFi 2200 and now I have 3G anywhere with this tablet!!! No contract!! Buy from Wally and you will get 1gb upgrade!! Additional points on this tablet. I have loaded quite a few great apps from the market, but I wish the app memory was larger than 160mb. The Processor memory is 420mb which really makes this tablet fly. You must download superbox so you can control your apps and cache. Superbox can also load all your apps on your SD card to give you room for more apps. The apps I recommend are, yahoo mail (if you use yahoo), kindle for android, us newspapers, power amp, mobo player, tunein radio, angry birds (if you like games), textplus if you want to send text messages, software data cable will allow you to send files wirelessly to any computer using your wifi.
TIP: Screen is so sensitive when scrolling through many items, I turn my finger around and use my nail. Works great to avoid selection. Try it.

MartinLogan Purity Fully-Powered Hybrid Electrostatic Loudspeaker (Single, Cherry) Review

I have been a long-time user of Martin-Logan products and knew both partners when they sold stereo equipment in Lawrence, Kansas back in the early 80's. My first product to hear was the Monolith and I owned the original Quest. When buying M & L you must realize that you are buying a piece of scientific equipment. One, you are purchasing an electrostatic panel and two, you are purchasing a speaker that will need to be placed OPTIMALLY in your room to get the best sound possible. Those rules are: Electrostatic elements DO NOT LIKE a smokey environment. If you smoke or you burn incense and/or candles, over time your electrostatic panels will accumulate a film that will affect the sound of the speaker. Since the panel has an electronic charge, it will have the necessary ingredients to form that film from air-borne contaminants.
Location, location, location. All electrostatic panels push sound from the front AND from the rear. If you do not have your speakers placed away from the back wall, you will find that the sound from the rear of the panel will be out-of-phase compared to the sound from the front. The two sounds will cancel each other either partially or fully making a muddy sound. You want the sound to be ideal since the sound pressure from the rear of the panel is what gives that "encompassing" sound that these speakers are known for. Ideally, you will need at least two feel of space behind the panel and the speaker will need to be toed in to eliminate that interference. If you have a room that is not large enough to place these speakers and still contain your large screen TV AND THE REST of your furniture, then don't purchase them, you will not get the enjoyment from them as you might think you will. If you follow the rules, you will have the most enjoyable speaker made by man.
Now the power. You may ask; "why does it have a internal power amplifier?" One of the early requirements with M & L speakers were that they were quite power hungry. Later models addressed that problem, but they still required a power amplifier that moved a lot of Current (amperes) not Power (watts). Consequently, people who bought these speakers also had a lot of money rapped up in an expensive high current power amplifiers. Since these M & L's have the power built in and are matched to the speaker, the extra money to purchase these speakers are well worth it. Remember, you are purchasing TWO mono-power amps when you purchase two speakers. That alone is worth at least $1200 if you were to purchase two high end power mono current amps by themselves. You can also use the speakers to play back any device that has a built in volume control and a line level output source, e.g iPod, Satellite Radio, even your computer. As a surround system, you will need at least four of these units plus a center channel or another one of M & L's speakers that are matched to these units. Remember, if you use self powered speakers you are running line-level signal wires instead of speaker wires that tend to loose efficiency over long runs as do the line-level signals but not as much and which are more stable.
All in all, these are probably the best value out there for a high end speaker that has the sonic wonderment that most people will marvel at. If you ever auditioned a pair of these speakers, you will not want anything else in your home.
