I wrote a scathing review of my experience in purchasing this product, at first, when Electronics Expo, the Amazon-vendor, would not accept a return on this product. My decision to return it was based immediately on observing the "screen door" appearance (resolution)compared to another DLP model a friend let me borrow and try. Also, the zoom feature wasn't as good. Having said that, though, the convenience of this design, with the DVD player and sound built in, is a very nice thing, and in the end, I decided to keep it and make use of it for that reason alone. I also got an email and phone number from Electronics Expo trying to make good on the deal. The rep was reachable by phone, and tried to make me happy. I recommended they find a way to say "you may not return this item if you purchase it" show up somewhere on the cart check-out page before you click "complete purchase." So, let the buyer beware.Epson MovieMate 55 Portable 3LCD Home Theater Projector with Built In DVD Player

The good:
The 3DSMAX and Maya benchmarks speak for themselves. Furthermore, game performance is excellent. This would be the ideal card for all game developers save for the following caveat.
The bad:
1. There is no professional 30" screen supporting both HDCP and display port.
2. All display port -> dual link DVI adapters are highly problematic at best and totally nonfunctional at worst (for example, the Apple display port -> dual link DVI adapter is notorious garbage that has never worked one instant for anybody and never will; the only halfway functional one garbles DPMS, preventing operation at 2560x1600 after entering full screen DirectX modes in Windows).
3. Console game development requires a screen supporting HDCP.
4. The only 30" screen supporting both HDCP and display port is the Dell 3008WFP. This is a consumer screen that suffers from all sorts of brain damage (no powersave control, long resync times, questionable quality).
For heaven's sake, ATI, going with display port only on a professional card is a mistake.
DO NOT BUY THIS CARD IF YOUR DISPLAY REQUIRES DUAL LINK DVI.

I am professional photographer specializing in botanical and nature photography. I bought the Tamron 180 lens after many years of using the equally great 90mm macro. I love the 90mm but was looking for a lens with greater working distance and better ability to control backgrounds. The 180mm has proven to be excellent optically as well as ergonomically well designed. The light weight, for its size, coupled with the very intuitive af-mf push-pull design are great in the field. I work at Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden. For images taken with the above lens, please visit [...].

eLocity A7 Touchscreen 7-Inch Android 2.2 Tablet (Black) Review

eLocity A7 Touchscreen 7-Inch Android 2.2 Tablet (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, I'll apologize for writing a review after owning this tablet for only one night. I hate these kinds of reviews but I felt this needed at least one review from a real customer.
In my few hours with it last night, I downloaded and installed several apps on it from GetJar, including Facebook and Kindle. I also downloaded several apps from my PC onto a thumb drive and installed them onto the tablet from that, which was very cool. I visited several websites that had flash banners and they worked flawlessly. I was also able to play embedded videos on sites including youtube.com and my facebook news stream.
Pros:
- USB port - I plugged an 8GB flash drive in and installed apps from it.
- Micro SD slot - Haven't used it yet but plan to soon
- HDMI port - Haven't used this yet either but it's a great option
- Video looks great
- Very responsive when touching links or rotating display
- Browser is quick and displays flash
- Great price for the specs
Cons:
- Lack of good, working apps. For the A7, you get your apps from GetJar, instead of the Android marketplace. Some apps refused to install for me, like Angry Birds. Others installed but clearly weren't made to work on this size tablet. There isn't a netflix or skype app available (I was hoping to use the webcam with skype).
- Pinch-to-zoom doesn't work particularly well. Seemed to always go way too far in or out. You're better off just double-tapping.
- Scrolling - scrolling by sliding my finger seems to cause a lot of unintended clicks along the way. I think there's just a bit of a learning curve, being used to my ipod touch. It seemed to happen less as the night went on.
- The fixed buttons aren't backlit so at first it's difficult to use in the dark. You quickly figure out where they are and it's not that big a deal
- So far it's been hard to find any cases or accessories built for the A7
- I wasn't able to set up my yahoo mail in the default mail client. Instead, I installed the yahoo mail app, which is basically a shortcut to the mobile yahoo mail site, which works fine.
This purchase was for my wife, who wanted something like an iPad but at a size that fit in her purse. This is almost the exact same size as my 2nd generation Kindle (a little thicker). So far she's used it to quickly check and respond to things on Facebook, check emails and surf the web. Because of the speed and ease of use, it should supplant most of her laptop use, with the exception of sending long emails and working on speadsheets.
I trust there will be more and better apps for android tablets in the near future. It looks like there are A LOT of similar tablets hitting the market now. For me, this tablet looked like the best specs for the best price right now and I imagine it will be even more fun to use as new apps are made for it.

Polk Audio FXI A4 Surround Speakers (Pair, White) Review

Polk Audio FXI A4 Surround Speakers (Pair, White)
Average Reviews:

Surround speakers have been the part of my HT that I have neglected for the longest. I've upgraded fronts, center, sub, AVR, etc. but I've had true surround speakers. I've been tempted several times, but never pulled the trigger. Although they are not a match to the rest of my speakers (Polk LSi's), I am very happy with them. Surround effects are detailed and realistic. I also like to listen to concert DVD's and I'm very happy with the performance of these speakers with music. Purchase from Amazon was smooth and quick. Ordered on a Tuesday night close to midnight and received them on Thursday.

I have Polk Audio speakers from the good old days, when they were very good if not exceptional. I needed a more prominent center channel, but I did not want to replace the other "parts" of the home theater arrangement. After contacting Polk tech support, they recommended the CSI A6 as complementary to the existing array. It is a good fit and provides clear dialog and the tone and range blend well. (the system is driven by a Denon 5308)

HP iPAQ 111 Classic Handheld (FA979AA#ABA) (110 Series) Review

HP iPAQ 111 Classic Handheld (FA979AA#ABA) (110 Series)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned several Pocket PCs, including a few earlier versions of the iPaq. Of the ones I have tried, this is probably the best, though its not a great leap forward. Having WiFi, Bluetooth, SDHC support (previous versions didn't support the new higher capacity cards that this one does - I have an 8Gb SD card in mine), a standard USB connection (previous iPaqs I owned use a proprietary USB connector) a relatively fast processor, the latest version of Windows Mobile all whilst retaining a relatively small form factor is a strong combination. Whilst many will opt for a Pocket PC phone (as my last Windows Mobile device was), having a seperate PDA from your phone has advantages for some e.g. if you are obliged to use a particular mobile phone for work (as I am) then you don't need the phone features on your PDA. With this device I can keep all of my personal contacts seperate from the business contacts on my phone and use the bluetooth feature to get my phone (a Blackberry Pearl) to dial any number I select on my iPaq. I have read other reviews on Amazon and can't say I have experienced any of the problems described. The screen on my iPaq works fine (no odd colours displayed) and windows media player has not yet crashed on my once (and I have listened to quite a lot of music and watched video on it). Overall, not a stunning leap forward but hard to find fault with it.

Clarion CMSW10.1 10-Inch Single 4 Ohm Voice Coil Subwoofer Review

Clarion CMSW10.1 10-Inch Single 4 Ohm Voice Coil Subwoofer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a more then adequate MARINE grade subwoofer for under $150. The subwoofer has max power handling of 350 Watts which translates into 175W RMS. I am running this with a 200W RMS amplifier and it provides a adequate all around bass sounds at reasonable listening levels. If I push the volume up to the highest settings, the amplifier handles the increase fine, but overdrives the subwoofer causing some distortion. For everyday use this is a great product for the price. I have this subwoofer installed in a custom box (Epoxied MDF closure) installed under the driver seat of my 25 foot express cruiser. I haven't heard the subwoofer in an open air enclosure, but I think it would be more then adequate in this type of setup, and actually may do a little better because the distortion wouldn't be as noticeable in the open air environment.
The only reason for 4 stars is that there are several products which out perform this subwoofer, but they cost more then twice as much. So great bang for your buck.

Onkyo TX-SR608 7.2-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) Review

Onkyo TX-SR608 7.2-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Unlike a lot of CEs, Onkyo may have indavertantly cannibalized its own model lineup by pushing so much featureset into an entry level receiver that it might deter buyers from their higher end models. I recently did a thorough comparison of the Pioneer VSX-1020 and Denon AVR-791 and the Onkyo nudged out the Pioneer due to its beefier amp section and OSD capabilities. That said, I must caution users that its value is marred by what appears to be a bug with its ability to pass through HDMI video signals unmolested, even in "Through" modes. This bug manifests itself in two ways: 1. 24 bit sources (like cable hdtv) are upconverted to 30 bit when output on a display; AND 2. for some inexplicable reason, 1080p 24fps sources stutter intermittently as if a frame is dropped. The latter might be more noticeable to plasma owners whereas 120hz and 240hz LCDs might compensate for the frame stuttering with their interpolation software (ie the soap opera effect).
With that caveat, the Onkyo is a terrific performer offering strong power (power consumption is up from the 607 to a very grown up 756 watts), terrific flexibility (four speaker terminals can be assigned to wide, height or zone 2). The Denon is limited to merely 7 speaker terminals and the Pioneer has only a pair of assignable terminals. The Audyssey auto-callibration (2EQ) is a notch behind Denon, but the inclusion of Audyssey DSX (for wide arrangements) is a feature that the Denon does not offer. While it lacks the USB terminal for Ipod playback of the Pioneer and the Denon, it does offer a computer input which might resolve the HDMI handshake nightmare many face with htpcs.
Onkyo rather smartly included a fan atop of the receiver, which is silent and all but eliminates the historical Onkyo toaster oven effect.
I really enjoy this receiver, but found the HDMI video molestation issues to quite problematic and what mar an otherwise incredible buy. Hopefully Onkyo can issue a firmware update.

Sure, we call it an "entry-level" A/V receiver. But when you witness the full potential of the TX-SR608, you'll know the level you're entering is far beyond the ordinary. For a start, you get six of the latest HDMI 1.4 inputs for simple hook-up of all your high-def sources. HDMI 1.4 also brings compatibility with the new 3D video format, as well as an Audio Return Channel from your display back to the receiver. Complementing HDMI on the input front, you have an analog RGB video input for connecting your PC, and a Universal Port for Onkyo peripherals. All video sources, regardless of resolution, can be upscaled to big and beautiful 1080p via HDMI and Faroudja DCDi Cinema. KORG 2 CH MIXER WITH KAOSS PAD Review

KORG 2 CH MIXER WITH KAOSS PAD
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I actually chose the 2 channel over the 4 channel because I preferred the layout with the Kaoss Pad directly between the channel EQ's. The Kaoss Pad inside is almost identical to the Mini KP except it features a third memory bank. You can read reviews on the Mini KP for more info but I'll tell you having this mixer makes me want to buy a Mini KP so I can take these effects with me on the road without lugging around my mixer.
Its cool that they have the different types of EQ's to select although I find myself only using "Isolator" mode because it offers full db kills. Having full kills makes a world of difference when it comes to blending dance music. Although the last mixer I had was nowhere close to full db kills and I felt it made me a better beat matcher because it was harder to mix on. Going to this mixer I immediately noticed how easier it was and how much better my mixing sounded. So for a beginner I would almost suggest they practice on one of the other EQ modes and save the "Isolator" mode for recordings and live performances.
The cross-fader is very smooth and ready for some serious scratching. I'd say there are two cons for turntablists though. NO reverse switch on the cross fader and the Line Faders aren't nearly as smooth as the cross fader. Not deal breakers for me but a few features some turntablists can't live without.
I also love the overall build and quality of this product. The top part is a nice glossy-type finish, but the corners are nice and rugged for protection. It also has a nice, clear, full sound. Everything I'd expect from a newer 24 bit mixer. I'd say the only con here is the EQ knobs could maybe be a little bigger and feel more durable. But the spacing between knobs is fine and I like the way they click at 0db.
Overall.......Extremely satisfied
PROS
$$ PRICE $$ You won't find a better bargain in my opinion.
24 bits of clarity
Sweet Effects Unit built-in that is equally capable and fun.
Selectable EQ modes and full channel kills.
Smooth Crossfader
Nice Build Quality
CONS
Small EQ knobs
Could use another LED or two on the meters that show your output volume.
No midi (what do you expect for a mixer under $500)
No Reverse Switch for cross fader
Line Faders not nearly as smooth as cross fader

Kenwood Excelon DNX9140 In-Dash Double-Din DVD Multimedia AV Receiver (Black) Review

Kenwood Excelon DNX9140 In-Dash Double-Din DVD Multimedia AV Receiver (Black)

What do you want to know? Is it a good product that does what it supposed to do? Yes! You have to buy a hook up to connect your ipod to it so you can play the videos on your ipod. You have to buy the rear cam also to hook up to it. It is a great product. I love watching my ipod videos on it. I love the quality of the screen. It works fast enough for me and I show it in my video. You can hook up a 5 channel amp for the front and one to your subs too. You can have your xm, ipod, xbox 360, radio, nav, tel, tunner all hooked up and ready to play! Can also use the video out to go to another source. I have a Honda Del Sol so not much use of another source for me. ha. Some of the concerns I had when reading the reviews I go over in my video. I hope it helps!; I had to edit the video a little. I took out the middle, but the key points are still there.

Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH - AV receiver - 7.1 channel - black Review

Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH - AV receiver - 7.1 channel - black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this receiver... let me say that first. It does it all! 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs, Dolby True HD, DTS-MA, crystal clear sound. I would expect nothing less from a Pioneer Elite product. I am blown away by the amazing sounds the receiver can produce when watching a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD encoded with True HD and DTS-MA. Uncompressed audio is great and there is no way to do it justice until your hear it. That said, there are a few areas of concern that I have experienced.
1. "NOT SUPPORT" message blinks occasionally across the screen of the receiver. This is most likely due to your component or your display having an issue with HDCP. But, after talking to the Pioneer Elite team on the phone and trying to troubleshoot it, I was left with the intermittent problem. I believe the root is my Sony VPL-VW60 projector not accepting a 1080/24p signal. I think I may have eliminated the problem by outputting only 1080/60p from my Pioneer Elite BDP-95FD (Another GREAT piece of equipment).
***FOLLOW UP - The "NOT SUPPORT" was blinking because I had the HDMI Control turned off on everything. However, the HDMI control on the Receiver itself does not actually turn off (even when "off" is selected and the machine is restarted). To remedy this, I turned on the HDMI control on every piece of equipment even though I am using a universal remote and really don't need it to be turned on to select inputs. The reason I turned it off on the receiver was based on the advice from Pioneer via the telephone. They were 100% incorrect in their diagnosing of the problem. Hopefully this will be solved with future firmware updates. Using HDMI control on all components and the receiver does work almost flawlessly. I say "almost" since HDMI control is not 100% compatible between devices from different manufacturers. You can research this point many places on the web.***
2. The onscreen menu for adjusting Receiver features and setup is HORRIBLE!! Not only is the color scheme b/w, but the text looks like something out of a 1978 PONG gaming system box. C'mon Pioneer. i know the setup menu is not super-important in the big scheme of things. But...
Other than those two minor complaints, I can't imagine owning a better receiver. This receiver comes at a high price, but I believe it is well worth it if you want the best. I ordered from ButterflyPhoto via Amazon, and the unit arrived perfectly. I am very happy with this purchase!

Harman Kardon HK3385 High Current Stereo Receiver Review

Harman Kardon HK3385 High Current Stereo Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently replaced a 25-year-old Marantz with an Onkyo 8222 and had ordered another Onkyo to replace a 30-year-old Technics. But the Harman Kardon suddenly struck me as worth going to the trouble of an exchange of one of the Onkyo's. It's the only comparably priced stereo receiver carried by Amazon that's in the running (it's hard to take Sony seriously when they omit a phono jack, and Teac is little more than a purchased brand name like Sherwood, Sylvania, Westinghouse, and some others that have little to no connection with past product).
The Onkyo performs admirably, but the all-black face can make hitting the right control a minor challenge. Moreover, with the arrival of grandchildren, the presence of input jacks on the face front of the HK recommended itself to me all the more (handy for plugging in a camcorder or digital camera, for example). As a kind of clincher, I had assumed Onkyo was still manufactured in Japan (my older Onkyo equipment is), but I find the receiver is made in Malaysia (same with G.E., RCA, and numerous other electronics products). So the fact that this HK is made in China can hardly be used to its discredit.
As for wattage (HK 3385 vs. 3485, Onkyo 8222 vs. 8522), anyone who thinks they need more than 40-50 RMS per channel is kidding themselves or still insisting on 8-cylinder engines (come to think of it, that's me). But occasionally I'm seeing a better deal on the higher power models, so price may be the ultimate determiner. (As for the dedicated sub-woofer output that Amazon's description mentions in reference only to the HK 3485, not to worry: it's present on the 3385 as well.)
Finally, if Harmon Kardon is selected by Apple computer to make its speakers, they must still be considered a high-end, quality company.

Denon DNC615 Pro Rack Mount CD Player with Digital Output Review

Denon DNC615 Pro Rack Mount CD Player with Digital Output
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A review on Amazon of another CD player, the Teac CD-P1250, said that it was the only single-disc CD player on the market. Nope, there's two. Well, one and a half anyway.
The Denon DN-C615 isn't exactly consumer gear, but it isn't exactly pro gear, either. It's got rack ears and pitch adjustment, and it's set up for a wired remote and output cascading, but the outputs are unbalanced RCA plus SPDIF. It has auto cuing and audible manual cuing within a track, but doesn't allow you to save cue points. So I think "semi-pro" is a pretty good description.
It's aimed at DJs, community radio stations, and sound reinforcement applications, and it wouldn't be out of place in a small studio for applications like sampling. And, what matters to my family, it drops right in to a home stereo system, so long as your cabinet can manage the rack ears (which don't look like they're removable except with a hacksaw).
The sound (even before break-in) is typical Denon: clear and airy, with both good definition and satisfactory thump in the bass, free of noticeable spurious harmonics. The controls and displays are easy to use and understand and don't have any immediately obvious ergonomic problems or bugs. It plays CD-Rs fine, both audio CD-Rs and MP3 CDs, and it allegedly plays CD-RWs, but I probably won't find out because CD-RWs and my computers don't get along.
MP3 files sound as good on the DN-C615 as I've ever heard them. You don't need to burn a special MP3 CD: it'll take plain data CDs with MP3 files on them and even lets you navigate through folders. But if you do give it a disc that's been burned as an MP3 CD, it'll run the playlist in order, which is a big improvement over my DVD player which plays MP3 files in some strange order I have yet to figure out. And I have to admit, seeing the song titles change as it plays is positively decadent.
The price is a little higher than I'd have liked, and unless you want to build a wired remote or have your chair real close to the player, you'll need a special remote (another US$40). But I do like the player so far.

Awesome piece of technology!
The body design, materials, software - all top notch.
I got a 219+ for myself, got this 119+ model for parents and got their 4-bay rackmountable model at work.
The software is "polished" and mature. I couldnt find any issues with it. Very happy so far. (especially knowing that now i have weekly automated backups happening at home :) )
